dream
Davhin watched the small group of people walk about the room with little interest. He’d been watching them for the whole morning and there wasn’t much change. Someone would find the piece of parchment and the object and yell or jump up and down like a mad person then everyone would come running over all excited and they’d all try to read the paper at the same time. Except for one young woman, Davhin had noticed. She was different. She wouldn’t walk about the room as the others did but just stand in one spot and watch. She’d just observe everyone and the room. If she did find the object, which she had the first three times, she quietly walked to it, read the parchment, and looked at the object. Then she would put it back and give the parchment to the closest person. Davhin found it odd but interesting. She didn’t’ seem to be participating anymore though, just watching. As the group proceeded to the next room Davhin stayed to watch them go instead of rushing to the room before them. He was watching an older man, the one who had found the clue, stepping quickly and speaking very loudly, when he noticed the young woman in the back of the group. She looked as if she were having a hard time keeping up. She was calmly struggling to stay with the group. Davhin wondered why she didn’t just say something or get some help. ((Maybe she was thirsty.)) He shrugged, and began to run to the next room. When the people began coming through the doors he watched for the girl. She came through last minutes after the others had been there. No one had even noticed she was struggling. He watched her the whole time after only a few minutes her gaze stayed in one place. Davhin realized that she had done that every time. It was a long while before someone found the clue. It was right where the girl was looking. She could have gotten every single one, but for some reason she hadn’t. This confused Davhin. The group had found the clue and read it about eight times now, but they couldn’t figure out which room to go to. Even though it was the hardest one, they should have figured it out by now. It was obvious if you just thought about it. The whole group was standing around the object and the parchment silently trying to figure it out, each one hoping it would be them. Then there was a clear soft voice from the other side of the room, "Crows." Everyone turned to look at the young woman in amazement. She hadn’t even been participating and she knew? Socked they just stood there. Davhin smiled. No wonder she stopped participating, she didn’t need to. Someone shouted something about what were they waiting for and the group hurried off. Davhin stayed and watched the girl get up and begin her slow walk across the room. About the middle she sat on the floor breathing heavily. Davhin didn’t know what to do so he just stood there. He could here the rest of the group loudly talking and laughing as they made there was down the hall. He looked after them but couldn’t see them. When he looked back at the girl she was laying awkwardly on the marble floor. He ran to the stairs and slid down the railing rushing into the quiet room where she was. He quietly whispered "milady?" as he knelt by her. Her face was sweaty and her hair was wet. He carefully laid her on her back. She was pregnant. He half gasped and laid her onto her side, making sure she was breathing. Now he really didn’t know what to do. His father was in the crow room with the group because that was the last room. He didn’t want to leave the girl alone though. What if something happened? Not knowing what else to do he picked her up and walked out of the room to the guestrooms down the next hall. He had a serving maid open the door for him and he gently laid her on the bed. He made sure she was comfortable and then ran to get his father. When he got ot the room his father was giving the speech he always gave at the end of this game. Davhin waited until he was done and then went to talk to him. "Dad, one of the young women in the group passed out in the last room."
"How awful. What do you want me to do about it?" "Nothing, just tell me what she needs." "How am I to know son?" "She was all sweaty and hot-" ""She probably needs to just cool down. Take her to get a bath." "Dad, but she’s-" "No, I don’t want to hear anymore of it. I have business to see to." With that he walked back out to the group waiting patiently for him to tell them what it was that they had won. Davhin rushed back to the girl. He slowly opened the door to the room and heard a soft hello. Relief flooded through him; she was awake. "My dad says you need a bath. Can you walk?" There was no answer. She wasn’t awake anymore. He gently picked her up and carried her to the bathhouse. It wasn’t really a bathhouse, just where everyone bathed. He found an empty room and opened the door. Now he really didn’t know what to do. He could go get a maidservant to bathe her, but he didn’t really want to go looking for one and leave her alone again. "You may put me down now." Came a soft whisper in his ear. "Will you be alright? My dad said you needed to cool down and take a bath." The girl smiled. "I’ll be fine." Davhin was going to question her but decided not to. "Here, I’ll start the water for you." He set her down by the bath and began to fill the tub. He made sure the water wasn’t too hot and then left the room. Carly shivered as he shut the door. Being surrounded by the tiled blue porcelain made her feel cold. The running water didn’t help either. She decided a bath wouldn’t be so bad and began to take off her dress. When it was off just her silk under dress remained. Sitting against the cold porcelain wall felt good and she fell asleep.
